Philly-Whitemarsh's tournament hosting tradition for major 7s events started in 1995, when PW hosted the national 7s championships in Conshohocken. In 2002, PW hosted the event for the eight consecutive year. PW expects to have as long and successful of a run with the Surfside 7s.
The Surfside 7s is shaping up to be a tremendous event. We have two sites right down the beach from one another with two beautiful pitches on each site. In addition to the men's MARFU qualifier, we are hosting a women's and men's open division and a REALLY open division just for the fun of it. After a successful trip to Baltimore to play Columbia, Philadelphia’s own 'Dirty Dingoes' will be on hand to show us how touch rugby is officially played. The Dirty Dingoes will be hosting Columbia this time.
The men's premier division will be outstanding as usual. We expect to see all of the top MARFU squads competing in the lat of four qualifiers. We will have an assortment of MARFU and non-MARFU teams in the open bracket. We’re expecting the women’s bracket to be the strongest of the summer.
With the beachfront Windrift Hotel and restaurant sponsoring the event and located right across the street from the main pitch, we're expecting sandy spectators lined across the field. Bring your friends; bring your family for a day of rugby, fun and sun at the first of what we believe will be many Surfside 7s tournaments.
There will be after tournament festivities for participants immediately after the tournament at the Windrift. The Windrift Bar is just across the street from the 80th Street pitches.
