Result:
PWRFC B 25 Washington B 10

With competition for spots on the second side becoming fierce, the P-W Bs came out looking to impress and for all but 10 minutes of the second half dominated Washington.

Flyhalf Brian Fischel put P-W on the board first with a penalty kick following a deep kickoff and solid defense that pinned Washington in its own end. The 3-0 score lasted only two minutes before winger Marc Frey beat his man around the corner and went in for the try. The missed convertion left the score at 8-0.

Frey got his second try on the day in the 23rd minute, breaking down the blind side untouched. The convertion missed and the score stood 13-0 until the final minute of the half, when fullback Stephen Siano pinned a defender deep in Washington territory and fed outside center Dan Kateusz for a try. Fischel converted and Philadelphia-Whitemarsh went into the half leading 20-0.

Two quick scores in the second half by Washington’s backs gave that team life, but Philadelphia-Whitemarsh shrugged them off and topped off the match with a try by rookie winger George Harris. The first try of Harris’ career made the final score 25-10 for Philadelphia-Whitemarsh.

Flanker Lex McCurry packed a full game’s worth of tackles and hard runs into the second half and was named the Tetley’s English Ale Man-of-the-Match for his efforts.
