Marcus Respes Attending Eagle 7s Camp

Coming off of three very good seasons at MARFU wing, playing center for PWRFC's Super League team and playing for NYAC's 7s squad this summer, Marcus Respes has been invited to the National Senior Men's 7s Rugby camp being held in West Point, NY. MARFU won the National All-Star 15s with Marcus' help, Philadelphia Whitemarsh secured the best defense in the league and narrowly missed the playoffs in the RSL and NYAC 7s made a trip to the National Club Championships just a short month ago.

Some fifty-four players, three with NFL experience, started the camp on September 7, 2006 in West Point, New York, for a 7s camp that is the opening bell of a new approach to the upcoming international season.

Next month, Eagle 7s teams will be chosen after pre-tournament assemblies of 20 or so players, from which the travel squad of 12 will be chosen.

Fitness standards will be monitored, choosing in-form players for the squad pursuant to second-year 7s coach, and Philly-Whitemarsh Old Boy, Al Caravelli's new plan.

The upcoming 7s season is 11 weeks, up from 4 last year, and assemblies go from 21 days instead of 14.

The schedule includes the Thailand and Singapore tournaments in October, Punta del Este in late December/January, New Zealand and San Diego in February, and Hong Kong in April.

Invitations were issued following Caravelli’s review of 11 club tournaments, the 2 national championship competitions, and a handful of 15s events.
