PW Super League Side (17) v. NY Athletic Club (29)
Old Boys Rugby in Avalon, NJ
The New York Athletic Club (3-0-1), traveled south to the windy shores of New Jersey to take on a Philadelphia-Whitemarsh (1-3) side that has played better than their 1-3 record shows. Thanks in large part to the accurate foot of fly half Jason Forrest (4/4 penalty goals) Philly clung to a 17-16 advantage entering the 60:00 minute. With the conference lead on the line, NYAC’s wing Tony Legano intercepted a floating Philly pass and dashed 30m for the lead changing score. Minutes later off of a spirited NYAC maul, NYAC forward, and US Eagle, Andy Ryland crashed through the Philly try line for NYAC’s fourth scoring run on the day.
The win and the late Ryland try earned NYAC five points on the day and 21 on the season to maintain their Conference lead with Chicago.

The rugby community is getting together under the auspecies of Philly Whitemarsh RFC to morally and financially support Mark (Murph) Marseglia after the recent loss of his daugher, Becky. Mark coached his daughter as a member of the Hibernian Banshees HS Girls' Rugby Team and Mark has been a player for both the Hibernian and Philly Whitemarsh Clubs for many years. He needs our help.
On April 16th all who wish to support this good cause will gather in Avalon, N.J. for a revival of old rivalries and more importantly, friendships. There will be a four team old boy tourney, a Rugby League All Star Match, and the play will culminate with a Super League Match featuring Philly Whitemarsh vs. Powerful New York Athletic Club ( NYAC ) last year's Eastern Division Playoff Contender.
Events will start @ approx. 9 am and end following the Super League Match which begins @ approx. 2pm and with the Beef and Beer to follow @ approx. 4 pm.
Anyone who attended last year's Super League Game vs San Francisco's Golden Gate and came to the after match function will never forget it as among the most memorable days in our local rugby community's history.
The local AOH ( Ancient Order of Hibernians ) will participate and we anticipate a colorful start to the ceremonies. We are urging our membership and in particular those who have summer accomodations in the Wildwood, Cape May, Avalon, and Stone Harbor vicinity to pursue an associate membership ( $35 annually ) - The AOH has already become a great supporter of the Rugby Community and their contacts with local media has garnered invaluable publicity. They would also like to publicize and support our July 23rd 7s Tourney and any other events we can schedule @ the Windrift/Avalon/Stone Harbor venue. Let's cememt our relationship by becoming members of a great community organization.
Accomondations at the Windrift especially for this event are at the teriffic rate of $89 per night double occupancy. The Windrift is on 79th Street, Avalon. Reservations 1 800 45DRIFT or 609 368 5175.
The Buffet/Beef&Beer is $20 per person or $35 per couple.
Old Boys participating in the Tourney will each be asked to contribute a $100 per player entry fee to raise funds for the Marseglia's and in turn they'll receive a stylish Rugby Super League Jacket from KUDU Rugby that memorializes the day.
If you cannot attend, please consider sending a donation - details to come.
Please make reservations right away, we anticipate a large turnout - there will be unprecedented local publicity via the support of the local AOH.
Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause -
Joe Kelly - Head Coach, PWRFC.
