Philadelphia-Whitemarsh Old Boys Beat Wilmington Rugby

WILMINGTON, DE – In the day’s first match, Philadelphia-Whitemarsh’s Old Boys went up 19-0 in the first half, then held the Wilmington Old Boys scoreless in the second half to secure the 19-point victory.

Fullback Wayne DeMarco led the scoring for Philadelphia-Whitemarsh with two tries, the second on a long kick-and-chase in which DeMarco and winger Ed Logue out-raced Wilmington’s back three and DeMarco scooped up the ball for the score.

Marsh Pennington of Royersford, a center on the Philadelphia-Whitemarsh squad that was runner-up for the 1989 National Championship, scored the other try from his 8-man position.

Other notables on the Philadelphia-Whitemarsh squad included former US Eagle 7s performer Stephen Siano of Haverford, Conestoga High School Rugby Coach Tim Westerman and former club captain Keith Cassidy of Phoenixville.
