That resulted in a very quick 21 point deficit, and by that time, against a team the calibre or Washington, coming back was going to be very difficult. But what we were able to do was tighten everything up, and we began to play our attacking style of rugby.
Our forwards were able to neutralize their scrums and lineouts, and our backs, when they had the ball, ran well. usually breaking the game line, and supporting each other. The one part that we all did rather poorly was ball retention. We lost entirely too many balls in rucks. When we give the ball away, it's pretty tough to win.
As a team, our tackling was horrible. Washington's team was able to consistently break the initial tackle, creating an overload. They were able to do this throughout the game, and this resulted in many of their points happening on runs longer than 40 meters. But, we never quit, and for that I'm very proud of us. I felt the confidence level build throughout the second half, and I really liked the way nobody backed down.
I want to thank all of the guys who played multiple games, and also thank Jarl Ginsberg. You were everywhere today, and played through a twisted ankle and banged-up head. Thanks alot, you played really well.
Guys, this game just goes to show us how much more work we need to do. We have a lot of potential, and I believe that this can be a very good team, but we all have to work harder, train harder, and be at practice. The wins will come, we just need to step up and play Philly Whitemarsh rugby.
